Job Description

You will be required to:

· Help set up and run sporting events at school.

· Support teachers with sports training events.

· Organise games at lunch times.

· Support the duty teacher with playground interaction (organising playground games)

Applicants - Year 6

Job Description

You will be required to:

· Set up for the assembly each week on a rostered basis.

· Run the celebration assembly and special assemblies.

· Work with teachers to ensure good behaviour during assembly.

· Model and promote positive values around the school.

· Modify our assemblies to meet the needs of our school.

· Plan, organise and raise funds for school or other organisations through fundraising events.

· Promote the school through local newspapers etc

· Support the school’s involvement in community events.

Arts Committee

Job Description

You will be required to:

· Promote the Arts throughout the school

· Help organise and run any competitions

· Liaise with lead teachers about new songs for the school to learn

· Be responsible for meeting any performers visiting school

· Be prepared to take a helping role in the organisation of the production

ICT Committee

Applicants - Year 5 and 6

Job Description
You will be required to:
Meet regularly to develop ICT skills.
Learn new skills independently through play.
Support teachers and other children who require ICT assistance.
Share what you know at staff meetings and parent meetings occasionally.
Ensure the ICT equipment is back in the correct place at the end of each day and charged/charging.

Environment Committee

Applicants - Year 5 and 6

Job Description
You will be required to:
Be enthusiastic and motivated!
Be prepared to lead projects.
Promote recycling and support all communities to manage their bins 
Take care of the worms in the worm farm and compost bins
Be prepared to join the Enviro Group
Develop and maintain the gardens around the school 
Model good sustainable habits and promote the rest of the local community to do the same
Represent Southbridge School at environmental and community events 
Encourage as many people as possible to become involved
Promote the work of the Enviro Committee at assemblies, in newsletters and on the school news blog.

You will be required to:
Promote reading throughout the school.

Assist with classes during mobile library days.

The blog is alive and kicking ! Starting this week, we will be having Blog Detectives who are going to be looking out for cool and interesting things to go up on our blog. There is heaps happening at the moment!

ICT Expo

News:

Hi everyone. Tonight is the ICT expo. This is an opportunity for parents and children to come to school together. The children are showing their wonderful ICT learning to their parents. Please make sure that all children come! The times are as below:

5:30pm - 6:15pm Junior children are sharing their learning with their parents in communties 4-7.
6:15pm - 6:30pm Supper will be served in the hall for parents and children.
6:30pm - 7:15pm Senior children are sharing their learning with their parents in communities 1-3.

We expect all children to be here. Junior children should arrive from 5:20pm to get themselves set up. Please ring school and ask to speak to Denise or Wendy if you have any questions.

Geometry

We have been working hard learning how to draw scale maps, follow and write directions, use grid references and will soon be orienteering with compasses. We did a quick brainstorm of words we are commonly using. Go to our Mighty Maths tab, click on GeoNet and practice your geometry skills, you may want to use an Atlas too.

Team Tahi's Fair Test

Fair Test

Com 1 was investigating what the different reactions would be if you put a mentos in Coke. The coke's we used were Diet Coke, Flat Coke, Normal Coke and Coke Zero. We just used Mint flavoured mentos. The Fair Test was fun and the results were interesting. (Jack, Laura, Noah, Sophie)

Hypotheses

A hypothesis is a prediction of what is going to happen. These were our predictions.

18 people thought normal coke would react the most

4 people thought that coke zero would react the most

Everyone thought that flat coke would react the least.

Results

Diet Coke left 970mls in the bottle

Normal Coke left 1200mls

Coke Zero left 1140mls

Flat Coke left 1500mls.

The flat coke did not react at all.

Findings

Flat coke did not react, diet coke had the biggest reaction and coke zero came second.

We thought the reaction was mainly to do with the carbon because there was no reaction in flat coke.

Variables

These are things that can change our results for example:

amount of coke, different flavoured mentos, size and shape of the bottle, amount of bubbles in the bottles.

The first week of Term 2 was Science Week. We decided we wanted to look at the idea of fair testing. The coke/mentos experiment was the one the class decided on. Have a look at our video to see it in action.
